NYLON STOCKINGS
First introduced by the Du Pont Corporation in 1940, nylon stockings were an instant success. Billed as "stronger than steel" and "run-proof," the public was fascinated by the new
synthetic material. Du Pont brilliantly promoted the new stockings from the start. On May 15, 1940, Du Pont declared "N-Day" - for the first time, all across America, nylon stockings would go

Stockings are supported in one of three ways. The most common way is to wear a garter belt, also known as a suspender belt that goes around the waist and drops extensions known as
suspenders or sussies, that are clipped to the tops of the stockings.
The second most common means of support is stay-ups, where the inside of the top of the stockings has added to it a band of elastic this is not a very attractive material but one that resists
slipping down the thigh. This is considerably less reliable than Garter Belts in the sense of assuring that the stockings do not fall down, as it depends a great deal on the geometry of the
actual leg. also the elastic can be uncomfortably tight, leaving red marks and possibly aggravating varicose veins.
The third means of support is the elastic garter that is slipped up over the top of the stocking and which is intended to hold the stocking by gripping and clamping it to the leg. These are the
garters typically seen at weddings, They have much the same disadvantages as stay-ups.

The most convenient and fashionable way to wear stockings is to wear panties over the stockings and garters. If your panties are reasonably full, they will pin the garters to the body,
which makes it less obvious what you are wearing, It also enhances convenience, it makes going to the bathroom easier or getting involved in erotic play simply involves pulling down the
panties rather than going through all the steps to detach the garters and re-attach them after the moment has passed. Some choose to wear panties underneath instead,it's just a matter of
choice.

style until the 1960's.

RHT Stockings - Abbreviation of reinforced heel and toe.
Nude Heel - Stockings without reinforcement in the heel area.
Sheers Stockings - Stockings generally of a 15 to 20 denier.
Sandalfoot Stockings - Stockings with a nude toe, meaning no heavier yarn in the toe than is in the leg.
